My Start in Ministry
The past, present, and future of my ministry to the world.
My name is Camron Perry and I am a youth ministry worker currently serving in northwestern Michigan.
Ever since I was 14, I knew I had a special calling in youth ministry. So, I began to serve in the youth ministries around me from youth group, to FCA, to the Boy Scouts of America. I began by doing my best to serve faithfully and eventually obtain a combination of about six different youth leadership positions. I enjoyed it and used it as a way to grow in my understanding and love for God.
As my senior year came around, I began to dream of the impact of the Gospel that I could leave on this world and ways that I could continue to connect with youth as my ways became more and more outdated. To continue growing, I decided to join a church with a large youth ministry and learn from a place I had never served yet (a megachurch).
I began by serving through video work and making creative content for the youth ministry, then I moved into a more counseling-based role with the kids, and eventually began preparing games and hosting youth worship services. It was great and I got the chance to work with so many people who were so passionate about the Gospel. But after about 2 years, it was my time to move on and learn more in another area that I’m very passionate about, camp ministry.
As a camper for 7 years, on staff for 4 summers, and as an intern for 1 year, I became obsessed with the idea of sharing the Gospel through games, fun, and the outdoors. Pulling kids into a new, safe environment to conquer their fear and grow past their struggles is one of the coolest ministries that I’ve ever been a part of. And so, camp became my home-away-from-home and my escape from the darkness of the rest of the world.
Now, I work at Portage Lake Bible Camp with ambitions to build up the ministry to greatly impact any person who may step onto our property with the love, grace, and truth that can only be found in Jesus. Personally, I would like to make this impact through the means of food service, programming, and outdoor education. I hope to share these dreams in more detail with you in the future.
Camp is the place where I’ve been able to flourish and let myself dream big. I’ve been given the space to learn and grow. Plus, I’ve had trustworthy counsel in close reach through some of the toughest seasons of my life so far. I appreciate the dedication that those who have come before me have given so that I could be here and that fuels me to be the best that I can be for the sake of the Gospel and to build the name of Jesus Christ, not tarnish it with my own nature and recklessness.
This is why I have started this piece of my blog, “My Life in Ministry”. I wish to build a community of people around me that can consistently point me back to Jesus and help me grow in my spiritual life. If you are someone who could help me in my pursuit of these goals, please seriously consider reaching out to me or even just subscribing to my blog (for free).
The image of my future is bright while I trust in God to develop this community around me and I would just ask that you say a quick prayer right now and discuss with God whether you are a part of that community to some level…
And if you are, please reach out to me and let me know in what way.
